Lemon Balm Leaf

$9 BY WEIGHT

What it is

Whole dried lemon balm leaf, loose by weight — citrusy without any actual citrus in it.

The sensory experience

Lemon balm smells more like lemon than lemon does — bright and green, with none of the sourness. It’s the tea I hand to someone who says they don’t really like tea.

Materials

  • Lemon balm leaf (Melissa officinalis)

Provenance

Grown in the home garden, where it spreads faster than anything else we plant and never seems to mind the heat.

How it may be used

  • Steeped alone, a heaping teaspoon per cup, 5–7 minutes
  • Blended with chamomile for something rounder
  • Crushed fresh into iced water in summer, if you happen to be standing near the plant
Safety & use notes
  • Not intended to replace medical care. Consult a doctor if pregnant, nursing, or on medication, particularly thyroid medication.
